The effect starts much later
When you eat it, the effect does not start straight away. With edible forms, the effect only starts after 30 to 120 minutes, often only after three quarters of an hour to an hour and a half. When you smoke or vaporise, you feel it within seconds to minutes.
Never take more
The danger is that you think it is not working and eat another piece. You then end up with too much in your system and cannot go back. When smoking, you feel exactly when you have had enough; when eating, you cannot.
Longer and more intense
The effects of an edible form can last 6 to 12 hours, much longer than when smoking. That can be unpleasant if you want to go to sleep. The effects can also be much stronger and more intense than when smoking.
The dose is hard to judge
The dose of an edible form is hard to judge. It is often unknown how much is in it, even if someone made it themselves. When smoking, you notice after a few puffs how strong it is and you can stop; when eating, you only notice the effect late.
Empty or full stomach
On an empty stomach the effects come on faster and more intensely. After a big or fatty meal it can take a long time to work: then wait at least 2 hours. Take nothing extra in that time.
If it becomes unpleasant
If it becomes unpleasant, find a quiet place. You may feel ill and anxious, but it passes by itself and there are no lasting harmful consequences. Make sure someone is with you.
