Privacy
Privacy at Empire
The Empire website does not collect any data about you itself. Below you can read what your browser does remember, what the Google Maps map does, and why.
No cookies of our own
The Empire website does not place any cookies itself. That is why you see no cookie banner. Only the embedded Google Maps map can place Google cookies: see the section on Google Maps.
Google Maps
The home page and the directions page contain an embedded Google Maps map. As soon as that map loads, Google receives your IP address and technical details of your browser, and Google can place cookies. Google may also process that data outside the European Union; Google's privacy policy applies. If you do not want that, do not scroll to the map and use the address instead: Krocht 8, 2011 PT Haarlem.
What your browser remembers
On your device the website keeps four things in your browser's local storage (localStorage): that you confirmed you are 18 or over, the theme you choose (palette, typeface and lives), your progress in the Knowledge Base (XP, days in a row, crowns and completed lessons) and which chapters of the textbook you have read. A lesson you are in the middle of is kept temporarily in session storage (sessionStorage), together with the number of completed lessons you have already seen (for a small animation), and disappears when you close the tab. That data never leaves your device.
No tracking
We use no analytics, no advertising networks and no fonts or scripts from other websites. Apart from the Google Maps map, everything you see here comes from this website itself.
Links to other websites
The route buttons open Google Maps or Apple Maps in a new window, and the sources in the Knowledge Base open the websites of those organisations. Their own privacy policies apply there.
Clearing it yourself
Want to get rid of the saved choices? Clear this website's site data in your browser settings. The website will then ask for your age again.
